Manic panic ball gown making - the Simplicity Gone With The Wind thing,
in gold, complete with 50 yards of frills, made in 12 days for a mad but
lovely customer!

Needed to buy tin snips for cutting the hoop steel, which wasn't strong
enough, so her hoops are made from double glazing conduit!

So... What do *you* use for hoops, and how do you cut it?

I use an angle grinder! When I can't get hoop steel, I have in desperation
used the plastic "stuff" used in Roman blinds. You can get it in huge lenths.
I join it together with a "cloth" type sticky tape (added strength).
The plastic "stuff" can also be threaded through the material channel double
(2 pieces) for added strength.
It will retain it's shape as long as it's looked after and the crinolene is
stored flat. If it is hung for a long period it goes eliptical.
