I have looked (really, truly) but am finding it very hard to find
comprehensive instructions on making plaited straw hats. Can anyone help? I
am also looking for instructions on making plaited ornaments from straw /
wheat etc. I think it was a traditional harvest tradition in parts of the
UK. Thankyou......Amelia in Australia

Hello Amelia,

I know how frustrating it can be to not find the things you are trying to
find information on.

I did a little search of my own for you and found these websites:

Straw Hat Making:

http://vintagesewing.info/1950s/52-hmh/hmh-toc.html

47-56 in table of contents has a lot about Straw Hat Making

http://www.costumes.org/classes/254pages/projects/strawbraidhat.htm

Has a quick straw hat project

Shows how to make a doll sized straw hat

If I'm thinking of the same thing that you are, making plaited straw
ornaments is also called wheat weaving.

Here are some websites that I found about Wheat Weaving.

http://www.strawcraftsmen.co.uk/resource.html

http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_artists/article/0,1789,HGTV_3228_1388660,00.html

http://www.naturalfamilyonline.com/1-e&h/49-autumn-wheat-weaving.htm

That may not give you everything that you need but hopefully it will
give you some fresh ideas on how to find the information.

Happy crafting Smile

Jen
