hi, my son wants to quickly wear out his new jeans so they look worn and
interesting; any advice on how to do this please?

Well I don't know how to get the faded effect going without buying them that
way...but if you are going for the slightly torn look i can help. I got a
razor and made slits on the base of the jeans, and just pick at the base
with the razor, that works as well. Just up the top, on the legs slightly
bellow the fly area, make horizontal slits, only slightly, about 2-3 on each
side. LOOKS GREAT.

I like the idea of Nash, but I would suggest that after cutting the fabric
by razor, better soak it and put it to wash, by doing that... the warp and
weft yarns will come out of the cuts and it won't appear as the cuts are
fresh and deliberately done....... it looks cool !
