Did you really need to add in all your spam again? A simple repost of
the links would have sufficed, I'd say. |

Sorry, but I think people would have been confused had I not included
that, since the person who replied did not include enough of the
original message for people to figure out what I was talking about. I
could have replied to my own message, including most of that, but that
would not have cut down in the bandwidth significantly.
And sorry, I forgot to include the AD heading when I wrote the
message.... But ads are accepted in this newsgroup on an occasional
basis, and the subject of my message was far from deceptive. Next time
I post something like this, I will include the AD heading. |

I'm not the one who makes the wings, just a partner in selling them....
But Luna, the artist who makes most of the "Imagination Creations" wings
has run into people copying her before. Usually, people just use some
element of her style and add their own touches, which doesn't seem to
bother her.... But occasionally someone blantantly copies the idea.
She has threatened a copyright lawsuit before, and the copying stopped
after that without any actual legal action.
I won't comment on her choice of tactics, because I personally don't
believe in copyright law. I pretty much think that "originality is the
art of concealing you sources," and that property rights only make sense
for things that only one person can have at a time, like physical
objects, not for things like ideas and information, where one person can
have it without limiting other people from also having it. (I think
things like that are in the realm of social relations, not physical
resources, and are best handled by social agreements -- ethical
restraints, contracts, and the like. Maybe the system we have is the
best one, but there's no way to know unless we can see other options, so
while I think people should be free to act as if intellectual property
existed, they shouldn't be forced to -- any group of people engaged in
voluntary, consensual activities who don't hurt others should be left
alone.)
It seems pretty much impossible in the global environment we live in for
one small vendor to stop some other person thousands of miles away, or
even in another country from using a design anyway... and only so much
work went into creating that design anyway. At a certain point you just
have to give up and let people imitate.
There's a big difference between some small seller imitating, and some
big company trying to steal the idea and copyright it themselves though.
So far, nobody has tried to do that. I think the copyright and patent
notices have been fairly effective at stopping it. (I don't have the
slightest clue what the patent on fairy wing-making could be -- maybe
some secret fairy magic -- but she just told me to put that in there
anyway, and I did.)
I'd like to see more art in the free domain -- copyrighted, but only
under something like the GNU Public License for software, which lets
people make copies and modifications with credit, but doesn't allow
people to incorporate it into something which isn't itself freely
copyable. In some alternate reality I imagine somewhere, there's a
fairy guild, organized by artist-vendors, taking dues and donations to
fund the creation of designs that are freely available, in order to seed
the market, and creating publicity that tries to get people to buy only
from vendors who are members. |

The Subject: line said "Fairy Wings by Imagination Creations for Auction",
you mentioned custom-to-specifications, the links are all to e-bay, and
you're on alt.gothic.fashion. What more info do you expect people to need
to realize that you're talking about selling fairy wing fashion
accessories?
