Hi, I have a question for guys out there, particularly between 18 and 35...

Perhaps I emerged from a time capsule lately, but what's with the boxer
fad?? I'm 30 years old and when I was in middle, high school, and college,
white briefs were very predominant (high school 1989-1993, college
1993-1998). I graduated in 1998. When I came back for my Masters last
year, I was surprised to find out that boxers had taken over. If what I
hear is correct, this changeover started around the early 90s, predominantly
with middle school kids because they're the ones most susceptible to fads.
So why did I continue to see almost all briefs at my college even into the
late 1990s? I think it's because by 1993 I, and people my age were already
in college so we were "immune" to these fads and therefore are still mostly
brief wearers. I'd like to know if anyone has a clue to why and when this
started, and what the trends are among teens and twentysomethings nowadays.
Anyone up for discussion?

One tends to notice on others what they themselves prefer. So if
you prefer briefs, that's what you'll most often notice on other guys.

I'm about 10 years older than you, but I still remember the trend
away from briefs and toward boxers. It really started in earnest
around the mid-late 1970's. I think the primary reason is simple:
it was the male equivalent of bra burning. Guys began to discover
not having their genitals constantly wedged up against their bodies
was a hell of a lot more comfortable, and the waist elastic used in
boxers is usually less restricting as well. And boxers simply look
dressier/better than briefs.

They do take some getting used to, especially if all you've worn
your whole life is briefs. But within a few weeks or months, most
guys who switch to boxers never go back to briefs.

I will never see fifty again and I have tried them all Boxer, Bikini, Jock
strap, thong, etc. as for the looking sexy part I think that the brief or
bikini is the sexiest of them all and i can't stand to looks or even wearing
the boxer. as for the thong I personally believe that they are the next
thing closest to the Jock strap just a little more on the fem side. The
boxer on the other hand is ugly, gives not support of any type for the
health thing and I would wear nothing before wearing those things. I wear
the brief's and bikini's and mostly bikini. they look good and give support
and let's face it a tighty bikini is much more on the sexy side than a
boxer.

Duane,

I totally agree with you. I HATE boxers. I don't even consider them
underwear. They are shorts: hence the name "boxer shorts". I see girls
(mostly teen girls) wearing them as shorts (over their underwear) all the
time. I only wear briefs, low-rise briefs, and bikinis of all colors
(mostly white, though) and styles. They look good on me (and other guys),
and they offer the support I like.

Why is it important that underwear and wearers conform to a certain
profile simply because you, me, the gatepost, prefers a certain style
that is or isn't "in vogue"?

Show me a guy in white regular-style briefs, and "Hello! It's woody
time." Always has been, and probably always will be.. but I recall
the first time I spied a package of Jockey Slim Guy Boxers at the
Liberty store in Honolulu's Waikiki district more than a few years
ago, I was totally mesmerized.

I bought a pair and so totally masturbated into them over a couple of
days that I left them in the hotel room a they were, well, grossed
out!

Now, tighty-whites still get me pointing north... boxers leave me
cold... but hey, the guy in them, is probably really interesting.

Apply the same formula to all sorts of brands, styles, cuts, colours,
fly designs (now there's an interesting proposition), and I'll be
interested in many sights.

Why am I seeing no discussion or even mention of boxer briefs? Comfortable,
great-looking, the best of both worlds!

I cycled my aging collection of briefs and boxers out, in lieu of these
wonderful hybrids. I don't care if I speak alone; I'm wearing comfortable
underwear.

Good for you Darin,

I only have one pair of underwear that would be considered boxer-briefs. I
don't mind them at all. They are Calvin Klein's. They are pretty
comfortable, but I still prefer a nice pair of white briefs.

Bill,

Right on! How old are you btw? I'm really interested in seeing the
breakdown of boxers vs. briefs in that 18-35 category.

Touche. I have a couple pair of bbs. They seem to have the fit of briefs
with the length of boxers. I still prefer briefs (any color) though.

I'm 34. I am a briefs man through and through, although (like I said) I
like low-rise and bikinis, too, depending on whether I'm more active or not.
In fact, right now as I write this reply, all I'm wearing is a nice pair of
white briefs.

Hello Group'
I'm 59 and I have favored briefs, although I have worn most styles. Boxers
and going Commando feels good but the support the the brief give you is
great. So I have to cast my vote for briefs all the way.

I found the opposite: the lack of any support given by boxers was
EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Give me the support of briefs any day! Plus
I found that sweating is a huge issue in boxers that I never had with
briefs. Probably because the briefs material was wisking away the
sweat before it reached the point of being a problem.

The only time I wear boxers is when I am in a kilt and need the upper
thigh coverage. Boxer-briefs do not have long enough legs I have
found, they are only cover about a third of the length that actual
boxers cover. But I will agree with you about the elastic on boxers
being much less restricting that on briefs.
